Why is the Dignity for All Students Act (DASA) needed in New York State?

The Dignity for All Students Act promotes civility and creates a safe nurturing environment for all students. DASA provides a response and protects students who are harassed and/ or bullied at school. The CCS campus has a DASA coordinator available to all students and staff as needed.

What are the categories provided and protected under DASA?

Race, color, weight, national origin, ethnic group, religion, religious practice, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, and sex.

 How does bullying affect students?

Students who may be affected by bullying report feelings of depression, anxiety, isolation, low self-esteem, poor school performance, poor attendance, and thoughts of suicide.
