PROGRAM DESCRIPTION - COSMETOLOGY

Let the world become your canvas as you learn extensive hands-on skills to express your creativity in hair design, hair color, make-up artistry, skin and nail care.   The 2-year program offers you the 1,000 hours of training in beauty and wellness, giving you the necessary foundation to pass the NYS Cosmetology Licensing Exam and begin your future career in the field.  Topics of study include hair styling, coloring, natural hairstyling, cosmetics, nails, and aesthetics.

 

Course available: Grades 11 - 12

Course length: 2 years

Credits: 6 CTE elective credits; 1.0 English; 1.0 Science

  • Braiding, Wigs and Hair Extensions
  • Make-up Artistry
  • Facials and Hair Removal
  • Nails: Manicures, Pedicures, Acrylics, U-V Gels, Tips and Wraps
  • Salon Management, Business Planning and Customer Service

 

 

 

COLLEGE CREDITS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Upon successful completion of this program, students may receive college credits pending established procedures.  Students may also receive an industry certification pending successful completion of an industry certification exam.  All students completing this program and passing the appropriate industry certification exam will receive an endorsed high school diploma.  Please see below for college credits and industry certifications available.

INDUSTRY CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Temporary NYS Cosmetology license that will facilitate employment in the field
  • New York State Cosmetology License (upon passing NYS exam)
  • NOCTI: Cosmetology

 ARTICUALTION AGREEMENTS:

  • The College of Westchester: up to 6 credits
